Jackie Drees -

Finland officials partnered with Cerner to help build a new digital platform that will combine healthcare and social services, providing citizens with access to integrated outpatient and inpatient care, behavioral healthcare and family services, according to a Sept. 10 news release.

Four details:

1. The Kansas City, Mo.-based EHR vendor is working with Aster, a co-operational organization across four of Finland's 19 regions. Aster covers Central Finland, Ostrobothnia, South Savo and North Karelia.

2. With the new platform, Finland citizens will have access to a single, digital platform for healthcare and family services, including child and dental care. Aster's goal of the project is to make data and information more transparent between healthcare and social organizations and increase access to population health data through a single system.

3. The project will roll out in two phases. The first will last one year and will cover project development and planning, and Cerner will contract with Aster to deliver the second phase, which includes implementing the new platform.

4. About 15,000 clinicians and 10,000 social service workers are participating in the project to address the needs for the integrated healthcare and social welfare system.
