Down the halls of Epic's campus: Treehouses, waterfalls & more — 8 things to know

Julie Spitzer -

Epic, the EHR vendor that powers a number of hospitals throughout the U.S., has one of the largest workplaces of all time, according to Atlas Obscura.

With a workforce of nearly 10,000, the software giant's campus — located just outside of Madison, Wis., in Verona, Wis. — is so mystical that it resembles something like a city out of a fantasy novel. In fact, one of its rooms was inspired by the Harry Potter saga.

Here are eight features of Epic's grounds, as reported by Atlas Obscura.

1. A red treehouse serves as a conference room

2. Underground tunnels and skyways help connect buildings

3. A moat and a medieval drawbridge separate modern glass buildings

4. An auditorium located five stories underground that accommodates 11,000 visitors

5. A life-size Grand Central Station featuring walk-in train cars

6. An Indiana Jones themed hallway

7. A farm campus with a four-story barn, milk jugs, butter churns and tractors

8. Plenty of sculptures of seals and elephants, including wax figurines of the Blues Brothers
