DOD deploys Cerner EHR at new sites: 5 notes

Jackie Drees -

Department of Defense went live Sept. 7 on its new Cerner EHR at four sites in California and Idaho, according to the Military Health System website.

Five notes:

1. The four sites now live on the new system are: Fairfield, Calif.-based Travis Air Force Base, Naval Air Station Lemoore (Calif.), U.S. Army Health Clinic Presidio Monterey, Calif., and Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho.

2. Once fully deployed, the new system, called MHS Genesis, will provide a standard EHR for more than 9.5 million DOD beneficiaries.

3. DOD will roll out subsequent waves of MHS Genesis approximately every three months beginning in spring 2020, with all military hospitals and clinics expected to be on the system by 2023.

4. MHS Genesis is designed to be interoperable with Department of Veterans Affairs new Cerner EHR system.

5. Defense Healthcare Agency will continually build enhancements into MHS Genesis to benefit patients and providers, with new releases and upgrades to be expected at least twice a year.
