DirectTrust Founding CEO Dr. David Kibbe to step down at end of 2018: 5 things to know

David C. Kibbe, MD, founding president and CEO of DirectTrust, will step down from his posts at the end of the 2018, the organization announced Feb. 21.

Here are five things to know about Dr. Kibbe's work with DirectTrust.

1. Dr. Kibbe led the establishment of DirectTrust, a healthcare industry alliance that advocates for the interoperable exchange of personal health information between providers and patients, in 2012.

2. Under Dr. Kibbe's leadership, 121 health IT and provider organizations have joined DirectTrust to access the organization's Direct exchange network.

3. Dr. Kibbe previously founded the American Academy of Family Physicians' Center for Health IT and served as CEO of web-based care coordination software company Canopy Systems.

4. Dr. Kibbe plans to help lead the management transition at DirectTrust in late 2018. After his resignation, Dr. Kibbe said he will remain active in the health IT industry while spending his free time sailing.

5. The organization's board of directors has launched a nationwide search for Dr. Kibbe's successor.
