Cerner government advisory board names new chairman, adds 4 more members

Cerner has appointed Patrick Murphy as new chairman of its government advisory board as well as three additional new members, according to a March 16 news release.

The Cerner Advisory Board offers guidance and insights on development and outreach within the federal government, healthcare industry, veteran and military communities and service organizations.

As the board's new chairman, Mr. Murphy will oversee its guidance on initiatives such as personal health data and information sharing, which is outlined under HHS' finalized interoperability rules. Mr. Murphy currently serves as chairman of innovation at the U.S. Military Academy at Westpoint and as an ambassador for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Hiring our Heroes initiative.

Mr. Murphy previously served as the 32nd undersecretary of the U.S. Army and was also on the Appropriations, Intelligence and Armed Services Committees while in Congress.   

Cerner also welcomed the following four new members to the advisory board: Anthony Principi, former Department of Veterans Affairs secretary; retired Army Col. Gregory Gadson, former director of the Army Wounded Warrior program; retired Army Col. Artie Shelton, MD, director of the Veterans Health Council and Vietnam Veterans of America; and Rina Shah, CEO and president of Peridot Technologies.
