Center for Medical Weight Loss, athenahealth team up to bring nonsurgicial weight treatment to 'Most Disruption Please' market

Julie Spitzer -

The Center for Medical Weight Loss teamed up with athenahealth to offer its platform for nonsurgical medical obesity treatment through  athenahealth's 'More Disruption Please' program, the companies announced March 19.

CMWL's ObesityTx  is now available on the athenahealth Marketplace. The platform offers a structured framework to help improve patient health outcomes through weight loss. ObesityTx features clinical and practice development training for obesity medicine, predictive patient weight loss, a behavioral counseling system with personalized recommendations and documentation for obesity service insurance reimbursement.

CMWL's program also enables providers to identify high-risk obese patient populations that fall under the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force and CMS guidelines for obesity screening and follow-up care.

"For over a decade, CMWL has filled a critical gap in the healthcare system by enabling medical providers across the United States to effectively treat patients suffering from obesity, which the American Medical Association acknowledges is a chronic disease that should be addressed by the medical community," said Kevin Eberly, CEO of CMWL. "Now, [athenahealth] customers can easily support that vision through optimized weight loss patient workflows and access to a host of tools and resources designed to achieve meaningful outcomes. For practices seeking new revenue sources or a distinct advantage in the transition to value-based care, CMWL's framework supports those goals as well."
