Apple offering health records self-registration to health systems

Jackie Drees -

Apple is now allowing hospitals and health systems with compatible EHRs to self-register for its health records project, which provides patients access to their health records directly from their iPhone.

Ricky Bloomfield, MD, clinical and health informatics lead at Apple, tweeted an update June 26 about the new self-registration function. With the update, healthcare organizations can sign up to be listed in the Health Records directory of Apple's Health app, so patients can look for their respective hospital or health system's location listings and download their medical records directly to their iPhone.

Apple launched its health records feature in January 2018 at 12 U.S. hospitals, including Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins Medicine and Geisinger Health System in Danville, Pa. Currently, more than 200 hospitals and health systems use the feature.
