13% of McKesson Paragon EHR clients reconsider switch after Allscripts acquisition, KLAS finds

Jessica Kim Cohen -

Sixty-eight percent of administrators and clinicians using the McKesson Paragon EHR don't believe Allscripts' acquisition of the company will improve or worsen the EHR system, according to a KLAS Research report.

Allscripts entered into a definitive agreement to acquire McKesson's health IT business last month. To investigate customers' attitudes toward the announcement, KLAS Research surveyed current McKesson Paragon EHR customers from 38 organizations.

Here's how respondents indicated the acquisition affected their future EHR plans.

1. Those who planned to give up the Paragon EHR under McKesson and still plan to find a new vendor: 39 percent

2. Those who planned to keep the Paragon EHR under McKesson and still plan to keep it under Allscripts: 37 percent

3. Those who planned to give up the Paragon EHR under McKesson but are reconsidering their decision: 13 percent

4. Those who planned to keep the Paragon EHR under McKesson but are reconsidering their decision: 11 percent

The 11 percent who planned to stay with McKesson but are now reconsidering the Paragon EHR under Allscripts cited poor past experiences with Allscripts and uncertainty with Allscripts developing two EHR platforms.
