New York hospital unveils ED as part of $90M expansion

Samaritan Hospital in Troy, N.Y., is opening a new emergency department Thursday, according to a Troy Record report.

The 32,000-square-foot ED is part of Samaritan Hospital's $90 million Heinrich Medicus Pavilion, which has been under construction for the past two years.

ED features include ambulance and walk-in entrances at opposite ends of the department, and rooms designed for seniors with soundproofing, larger clocks and staff who received specialized training. The ED will also house private viewing rooms adjacent to the resuscitation rooms that allow families to identify bodies and also allow staff to have quicker access to the resuscitation rooms after a patient dies.

The ED marks the first section of the new building to open, with intensive and progressive care, medical and surgical units and private rooms to be opened every few weeks. A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the pavilion will be held this spring or early summer.
