6 healthcare moves from Walmart, Apple, Best Buy + more

From Walmart expanding its healthcare presence with additional clinics to Best Buy partnering with some of the largest U.S. hospitals and health systems on remote patient monitoring, here are how disruptors are expanding their healthcare presence.

Here are six healthcare moves from disruptors since March 2: 

  1. Fifth Third Bank is acquiring healthcare payments and remittance provider Big Data Healthcare.
  2. Best Buy’s Geek Squad said it will be in charge of setting up remote patient monitoring technology in patients’ homes for Charlotte, N.C.-based Atrium’s hospital-at-home program.
     
  3. VillageMD, which is majority owned by Walgreens, acquired a 30-location medical group in Connecticut as it continues its rapid expansion around the country.
  4. Apple filed a patent for a “Body ID” composition scan that could be used for health evaluations.
     
  5. Best Buy is partnering with Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger, New York City-based Mount Sinai Health System and New York City-based NYU Langone Health on remote patient monitoring.
  6. Walmart Health said it will open 28 new Walmart Health centers by the first quarter of 2024.
