Wake Forest Baptist Health, Verily developing interventions to improve senior independence

Andrea Park -

Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Wake Forest Baptist Health and Verily, Alphabet's life sciences arm, have partnered to improve the health and wellness of senior citizens living independently, the organizations announced Dec. 12.

The partnership will combine Verily's product development and engineering abilities with the Alzheimer's disease research and clinical care expertise of Wake Forest Baptist and its Center for Healthcare Innovation. Ultimately, the partners will develop tech-based interventions to better connect older patients with healthcare providers and resources for more effective long-term, rather than episodic, care.

"The goal is to help this rapidly growing segment of our population to take an active role in living their most healthy and independent life in a familiar setting — their home," said Jeff Williamson, MD, chief of geriatric medicine at Wake Forest Baptist and director of its healthcare innovation center.
