Columbia-based University of Missouri's Tiger Institute for Health Innovation was formed in 2009 as a public/private partnership between the university and Cerner.

Tiger Institute works directly with healthcare providers and houses two engineering teams focused on implementing EHR improvements and clinical workflow solutions. With the goal of enhancing patient engagement and outcomes, Tiger Institute developed a results entry application where patients can input home-recorded data into the EHR via the patient portal for physicians to review. Another solution Tiger Institute created is a patient health scorecard located in the patient portal, which allows users to view and monitor progress against wellness and chronic condition measures and trends among clinical results.

In addition to developing EHR tools for patients, Tiger Institute has created various solutions to enhance provider workflows. These include a sepsis bundled compliance tool, visit itinerary, smart results graphing and a national emergency department overcrowding score.

University of Missouri and NextGen, an EHR software company, recently broke ground on the NextGen Precision Health Institute. The facility is the result of a partnership focused on systemwide precision health among MU, Siemens Healthineers and other industry leaders. The 265,000-square-foot facility aims to accelerate medical breakthroughs and increase collaboration among university scientists and industry partners, attract research funding and generate jobs.
