UC Irvine receives $24M grant for clinical, translational research innovation

The University of California Irvine's Institute for Clinical and Translational Science received a grant from the National Institutes of Health to advance its innovative research and development efforts.

The five-year, $24 million grant will be used to advance "the translation of biomedical research into new and better cures and treatments," according to Michael Stamos, MD, dean of UC Irvine's medical school.

Dan Cooper, MD, director of ICTS and a professor of pediatrics at UC Irvine, noted that the funding will also help the institute reach its goal of partnering with 3.5 million diverse community members to improve participation in clinical trials and therefore develop more representative approaches to medical care.

Other projects to be funded by the grant include training clinical research leaders to prioritize diversity and accessibility, establishing an EHR-connected clinical data warehouse and accelerating various ongoing innovations, including the use of robotics in rehabilitation.
