U of Washington, Gonzaga launch joint center for medical innovation, education

The University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle and Spokane, Wash.-based Gonzaga University will establish a new facility focused on medical education, health sciences and innovation.

The Spokane-based center is the physical manifestation of the two universities' Regional Health Partnership, which was created in 2016 to advance medical research and innovation in the area. The $60 million, 80,000-square-foot innovation hub will house classrooms, labs, offices and study spaces for students and faculty, as well as additional space for local health science and medical industry startups and nonprofits.

"The RHP building will benefit the dynamic faculty and students of Gonzaga and the University of Washington while creating an innovative hub that expands Spokane's research capabilities through collaboration with local companies and nonprofits focused on delivering rural healthcare access in our region and beyond," said Dean Allen, CEO of McKinstry, the construction engineering firm spearheading the facility's creation.
