Tampa General Hospital: CareComm Center

The 1,007-bed Tampa (Fla.) General Hospital is a leader in innovation with its CareComm Center, which controls day-to-day operations for the nonprofit academic center's staff. Through artificial intelligence and predictive analytics, the CareComm Center is designed to improve the experience, operations and outcomes for patients, families and hospital staff.

The Tampa General Hospital Foundation has provided $1.5 million in funding for the CareComm Center, which has proven successful. Since opening the center, Tampa General Hospital has shortened patients’ average length of stay by half a day. Additionally, Tampa General Hospital has saved around $3.5 million through the CareComm Center.

As one of the 2018 Most Wired Hospitals, Tampa General Hospital also partners with other medical centers and private practices to advance healthcare innovation. One partnership is with the University of South Florida. Through the partnership, Tampa General Hospital surgeons use the university's technology to create 3D replicas of hearts, spinal column and tumors to plan operations.
