The University of Washington is teaming up with Microsoft and the Creative Destruction Lab, a nonprofit science and tech program, to launch a collaborative focused on artificial intelligence and biomedical innovations, the organizations said May 20.
"The rapid growth of new machine learning applications focused on enhancing human health combined with innovations in sensor technology and other complements has created a flood of new entrepreneurial opportunities that will benefit society," Creative Destruction Lab Founder Ajay Agrawal said in the news release.
The accelerator will operate out of UW's business school in Seattle; its first focus area will be on computational health, which blends AI and edge computing technologies with health informatics and biomedical signal processing to create innovative clinical and patient-facing applications.
A team of scientists, engineers, economists and tech entrepreneurs will mentor startups that participate in the accelerator. Microsoft, UW and Creative Destruction Lab will choose the companies joining the nine-month program, which kicks off in November.
