Matter healthcare incubator opens 2nd location in New York City

Andrea Park -

Matter, a Chicago-based healthcare startup incubator, announced on Sept. 26 its plans to open a second innovation center, to be located in New York City.

The new location will act as a bridge between Matter's existing community of entrepreneurs, innovators and scientists in Chicago and New York's ecosystem of healthcare startups, established pharmaceutical and biotech companies, and major health systems and academic research centers, Matter CEO Steven Collens wrote in a blog post announcing the news.

The incubator's second outpost will be established in collaboration with healthcare investment firm Deerfield Management and the New York City Economic Development Corp.; the latter issued a request for proposals for a healthcare-centered innovation center in 2018, and ultimately chose Matter to foster healthcare development in the region.
