Inova gets approval for innovation district

Mackenzie Garrity -

Falls Church, Va.-based Inova Health was granted approval to develop its innovation district in Fairfax, Va.

The Inova Center for Personalized Health will be a destination for patient care, health discovery, research and education. Inova aims to create a space where clinicians work side-by-side with researchers and educations for the area's top universities and commercial partners. The innovation center will serve as a tool for economic development.

"Our mission at Inova is to provide world-class healthcare, and we have the ability to focus that mission on this campus in a way that's never before been possible in Northern Virginia," J. Stephen Jones, MD, CEO of Inova said. "We're grateful to the Board of Supervisors, the Planning Commission, the citizen task force and community groups who believe in our vision and worked with us to design a wonderful community asset."

Along with academic and research spaces, Inova plans to incorporate supporting, retail, hotel, housing and recreation spots for the community. Currently, the building that will house the Global Genomics and Bioinformatics Research Institute is under construction.
