Two Houston Methodist critical care physicians have received $100,000 total in grants from electricity company Reliant to pursue innovation projects for critical care patients, according to a June 29 news release.

Hina Faisal, MD, an anesthesiologist and critical care physician at Houston Methodist, will receive $50,000 to lead a project on 3D-simulated virtual reality technology that prevents delirium in critically ill patients. Cognitive intervention through virtual reality may help reduce confusion in COVID-19, surgical and medical hospital patients, according to the report.

Asma Zainab, MD, a critical care physician in Houston Methodist's Cardiovascular intensive care unit, will receive $50,000 to lead a project focused on personalizing lung failure care by creating models tailored to patients that avoid unnecessary pressure and injury caused by ventilators.

Reliant created its innovation fund of $100,000 in 2020 to empower physicians to create innovative solutions for critically ill patients.
