Emory Healthcare adds Musculoskeletal Institute to innovation district

Andrea Park -

Atlanta-based Emory Healthcare celebrated on Oct. 4 the groundbreaking of its new Musculoskeletal Institute, the latest addition to its new Executive Park health innovation district.

The facility will house support space for clinical and discovery research, and will also provide orthopedic and spine care, physical therapy, imaging and ambulatory surgery services. Construction on the 180,000-square-foot institute is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2021.

"From the location choice to architecture design to staffing, the formation of the Emory Musculoskeletal Institute directly aligns with Emory Healthcare's mission to serve humanity by improving health through integration of education, discovery and healthcare delivery," Jonathan Lewin, MD, president, CEO and chairman of the board of Emory Healthcare, said in a statement.

Emory Healthcare unveiled its plan to develop a health innovation district in May. The 60-acre Executive Park is located in Brookhaven, a city in the Atlanta suburbs, and will be home to a variety of clinical and research facilities dedicated to innovating in the areas of orthopedics, sports medicine, brain health, medical science education and health IT.
