Within Dallas-based Children’s Health is the Virtual Health and Innovation program, which includes 30 specialists who are transforming who pediatric patients receive care. Between developing apps to help patients from daily exercise to establishing a comprehensive telehealth program, Children's Health is a leader in innovation.
Since creating the Virtual Health and Innovation program, which receives $67,000 in funding annually for research and evaluation, the team collaborates with ventures to increase access points for care and improve long-term health outcomes for vulnerable patient populations. For example, the Children’s Health Virtual Visit app allows families to contact board-certified physicians, clinicians and nurse practitioners in the comfort of their home.
Children’s Health's innovation team has also developed its Diabetes Advisor app for parents to care for children with Type 1 diabetes. The app provides education materials to reduce sick days and hospitalizations as well as automates dosing and liquid calculations.
Additionally, Children's Health has its School-based Tele-Behavioral program, which is offered at 24 Texas schools and covers more than 23,000 students. Since its inception, the telehealth program has referred 209 students, hosted 652 virtual visits and provided 1,237 follow-ups.
