Boston Children's VR platform wins Eli Lilly innovation challenge

HealthVoyager, a virtual reality-enabled software platform developed by Boston Children's Hospital and Klick Health, was named on Dec. 2 the winner of Eli Lilly's inaugural digital health innovation challenge.

HealthVoyager was chosen from five finalists presented to an expert panel of judges at Eli Lilly's Indianapolis headquarters. The challenge, launched in August, was titled "Transforming IBD Care: Better Disease Monitoring, Management and Care for People with Inflammatory Bowel Disease," and offered as a prize $50,000 and the opportunity to continue to develop the digital health solution alongside Eli Lilly.

"We selected HealthVoyager as our winner because the solution spoke to our mission of making lives better for people around the world. Taking a patient-centric approach, the platform focuses on educating and informing the patient in a truly individualized and creative way," Divakar Ramakrishnan, PhD, Eli Lilly's chief digital officer, said in a statement.

Boston Children's and Klick Health unveiled HealthVoyager in February 2018. The platform combines EHR data with VR technology to craft 3D models that engage pediatric patients and their parents and help them better understand their disease and treatment.
