AHA names 3 winners of 2019 health innovation challenge

Jackie Drees -

The American Hospital Association Center for Health Innovation selected three health systems as winners of its 2019 innovation challenge.

The challenge required hospitals and health systems to create sustainable technology solutions to address social determinants of health. The top three winning organizations will receive funding and resources to help develop their ideas.

Here are the three winning hospital systems, listed in first, second and third place respectively:

1. NewYork-Presbyterian (New York City). The health system's project uses telehealth to connect social determinants screening with early childhood development screening, so providers can assess social determinant-related vulnerabilities at home.

2. Henry Ford Health System (Detroit). Their submission of an emergency department intervention uses online health technology and community health workers to provide reproductive-aged women with point-of-care planning services during non-emergency ED visits.

3. Children's Hospital Los Angeles. The hospital's telemedicine application allows new mothers to manage their postnatal care by offering medical information, task lists and wellness resources.
