Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente said it created an entirely new entity and brand for its value-based care organization made up of health systems — with Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger set to be the first member — to give it "the freedom to operate differently."
Its name, Risant Health, "comes from 'rise' and 'constant,' conveying our aim to lift others up and constantly reach new heights in the industry by remaining steadfast in our mission and commitment to value-based care," a Kaiser spokesperson told Becker's.
Under the deal, which is still subject to regulatory approval, Geisinger would become part of Risant Health but keep its "very strong and valuable brand," the spokesperson said. "It will maintain its name and mission, and continue to work with other health plans, other provider organizations, and independent physician partners."
Kaiser created a separate organization to allow the health system members to operate in environments with multiple payers and providers, whereas Kaiser cares for and insures its own patients. "A new entity creates the opportunity to invest in the future of value-based care in support of Kaiser Permanente’s mission while enabling KP to continue to pursue growth in its core model," the spokesperson said.
