Partners HealthCare, Fujifilm developing AI-enabled portable ultrasound

Andrea Park -

Boston-based Partners HealthCare has teamed up with Fujifilm SonoSite to apply artificial intelligence to portable ultrasound technology for point-of-care testing.

The collaboration will be based in Partners' MGH & BWH Center for Clinical Data Science, where the organizations will use Partners' datasets, IT infrastructure and clinical expertise and Fujifilm's portable ultrasound technology to develop AI-powered devices for use in emergency medicine procedures.

"If we build scanners that can be used by non-expert users both inside and outside the hospital, we can likely reduce the time delay between trauma and diagnosis, which will translate to more rapid interventions and improved outcomes," said Andrew Liteplo, MD, chief of the division of ultrasound in emergency medicine at Partners' Massachusetts General Hospital.
