Toledo, Ohio-based ProMedica announced Dec. 3 a partnership with healthcare data analytics startup Socially Determined to launch the Ebeid Data Nerve Center to improve understanding of and interventions for social determinants of health.

The Ebeid Data Nerve Center will be at the core of a larger initiative combining Socially Determined's analytic capabilities with ProMedica's clinical expertise and extensive datasets. The initiative's goal is to improve evaluation and understanding of how social and economic factors impact health and, ultimately, create a new model of precision population health.

"Addressing the social determinants of health is one of the leading disruptions in healthcare, and we must begin to use data analytics to drive the innovation and quantify impact," said Randy Oostra, DM, president and CEO of ProMedica. "Socially Determined links clinical, claims and community data to allow for meaningful action and to support reimbursement for interventions, such as food, housing and transportation."

Additionally, ProMedica announced that it joined Peoria, Ill.-based OSF HealthCare's venture arm and three other organizations in Socially Determined's previously announced $7.3 million Series A funding round.
