No experience needed for cybersecurity jobs

To fill the shortage of cybersecurity workers, companies are hiring individuals with no traditional four-year degrees or formal experience, reports The Wall Street Journal.

Currently, there are about 300,000 open cybersecurity positions, according to career website CyberSeek. To reduce this number, schools such as Rochester Institute of Technology and SUNY Polytechnic Institute are adopting degree programs to better meet cybersecurity needs.

Employers like IBM and Palo Alto Networks are also partnering with universities, training programs and cybersecurity competitions to get the necessary talent for their cyber teams.

At IBM, Charles Henderson, the head of the company's offensive security services team, said his team of corporate hackers has more music majors than cybersecurity degree graduates, WSJ reports.
