A Mississippi-based ambulance company reported a ransomware attack that potentially breached patient information.

Three details:

1. AAA Ambulance Service identified a ransomware attack attempt on July 1 and took immediate action to prevent data encryption.

2. The company conducted an investigation with a third-party and realized on Aug. 26 that some personal information may have been compromised during the attack. The potentially exposed information includes patient names, birth dates, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers and medical treatment information.

3. AAA Ambulance Service has not seen any evidence that PHI was misused.
