McAfee logs 478 cyberattacks every minute: 6 report findings

Although healthcare experienced 78 percent fewer cybersecurity incidents in the fourth quarter of 2017, the sector saw a 211 percent jump in disclosed security incidents over the full year, according to a recent McAfee report.

The McAfee Labs Threats Report is part of a quarterly series that assess the cyber threat landscape with data gathered by the McAfee Global Threat Intelligence cloud.

Here are six report highlights.

1. There were 267 publicly reported incidents in fiscal year 2017.  

2. McAfee logged 478 new cyber threats every minute, or eight threats every second.

3. On average, cybercriminals sold stolen records for $50.

4. Disclosed incidents in the Americas were up 46 percent in 2017 despite falling 46 percent in the fourth quarter.  

5. New malware samples increased to 63 million in the fourth quarter of 2017, an all-time high.

6. New ransomware samples increased by 35 percent in the fourth quarter of 2017
