Firefox building anti-tracking browser features

Jackie Drees -

Firefox is developing an anti-tracking feature that blocks sites from being able to track an individual based on their system configuration, The Verge reports.

The feature aims to prevent "fingerprinting," which describes how sites and online advertisers can track individuals by gathering various details about their system configuration, from operating system to system fonts. Services can use these details to track internet users across sites even if their tracking is turned off, according to the report.

The anti-tracking feature is part of Mozilla's efforts to increase user privacy. The technology is powered by Disconnect, a cybersecurity software company.
