Dr. John Halamka selected as editor-in-chief of 'Blockchain in Healthcare Today'

Julie Spitzer -

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center CIO John Halamka, MD, is tacking on another responsibility: editor-in-chief of the online, peer-review journal Blockchain in Healthcare Today.

In addition to serving as CIO of the Boston-based health system, Dr. Halamka is the International Healthcare Innovation Professor at Boston-based Harvard Medical School and a practicing emergency medicine physician. He has also authored five books on technology-related issues, as well as hundreds of articles and thousands of blog posts.

"We are thrilled to have Dr. Halamka aboard," said Tory Cenaj, founder and publisher of the journal. "We are poised at the foot of a precipice. Blockchain technology challenges us with an opportunity to [demonstrate] the inequality and inefficiency of legacy systems, frustrations on front lines honoring the Hippocratic Oath… elevate care excellence, and the health and wellness of global health citizenry. This is a Renaissance — an awakening. The question is whether the ideals of those that forge an egalitarian system succumb to recreating a similar rewards system, on a different platform."

Blockchain in Healthcare Today seeks to offer objective evaluation of methodologies, pilots, and scalable and sustainable blockchain deployments for healthcare systems. It plans to publish research, commentary and proof-of-concept for blockchain technology and related areas across the healthcare continuum.
