DHS: Beware phishing emails requesting Hurricane Harvey donations

Julie Spitzer -

The Department of Homeland Security U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team warned users to exercise caution when contacted to donate to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts in an alert released Aug. 28.

Malicious actors may use fraudulent emails, including links directing targets toward phishing or malware-ridden websites, to exploit legitimate rescue and relief donation efforts. US-CERT warned users to be vigilant of emails with subject lines, attachments or links related to Hurricane Harvey, even if an email appears to originate from a trusted source.

US-CERT noted trusted contact information for many charities can be found here.
