Apple iPhones have email vulnerability: 3 notes

Apple's iPhones contain a flaw in the email software that makes them vulnerable to hackers, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.

Three quick facts:

1. Due to the flaw, hackers can send an email that triggers a bug as soon as the smartphone email reader downloads the message; it doesn't require the user to open the email to activate the malware download.

2. ZecOps detected the flaw when analyzing an attack on an iPhone's operating system, but could not find the malicious code because the user had deleted the email that caused the attacks. This is the latest of a series of exploits uncovered in recent months that install software to download sensitive information including emails and photos.

3. There have been six attacks identified through the email vulnerability, according to the report.
