Alphabet's cybersecurity division, Chronicle, formerly Google X, released details on its first security data platform, according to CNBC.
Three things to know:
1. The platform, called Backstory, uses Google's infrastructure and analytics capabilities to give security analysts the ability to separate potential threats from numerous alerts.
2. The security data platform is Chronicle's first commercial product. Chronicle did not specify price details, but CEO Stephen Gillet told CNBC that cost will be based on a company's size, not the amount of data the customer generates.
3. Backstory aims to free up security professionals' time so they can focus on doing security work rather than managing security data.
"This is creating a large opportunity for cloud vendors, who already own global cloud infrastructure that can handle the volumes of security information being generated today," Jon Oltsik, senior principal analyst at technology research firm Enterprise Strategy Group, told CNBC.
