5 tips for hospital to protect themselves from cyberattacks

Mackenzie Garrity -

As cyberattacks become more common, hospitals and health systems must become proactive in their approach to cybersecurity.

Below are five tips to prevent cyberattacks from an eSentire Threat Intelligence report and cited by TechRepublic. The report gathered data from more than 2,000 proprietary network and host-based detection sensors.

1. Hospitals and health systems should create an emergency response plan for when a cyberattack occurs. It doesn't matter how robust a hospital's cybersecurity solutions are, having a disaster plan in place allows for hospitals to respond faster when an attack happens.

2. Employees must undergo training on how to spot phishing attempts and other scams.

3. If possible, hospitals and health systems should limit the number of locations and systems that they have. A hospital is less likely to be vulnerable with fewer systems.

4. Hospitals should consider investing in endpoint protection services.

5. It's important to constantly evaluate and readjust any plans, policies and procedures regarding cybersecurity.
