Hospital Experts Say Executives at Jackson Health Not Paid Enough to Turn System Around

Carlos Migoya, CEO of Miami-based Jackson Health System, has finished assembling his executive team, but some healthcare experts say the new executives are not being paid enough to fix the health system's massive financial problems, according to a Miami Herald report.

JHS expects to finish its fiscal year on Friday with a loss of around $85 million, down from a loss of $93 million in 2010 and $244 million in 2009, according to another Miami Herald report.

Here are the salaries of JHS's top executives, which are "below industry standards," said hospital consultant Joshua Nemzoff in the report:

•    Carlos Migoya, chief executive officer:  $590,000
•    Don Steigman, chief operating officer:  $490,000
•    Donn Szaro, chief strategy officer:  $500,000
•    Fernando Salgado, chief transformation officer:  $450,000
•    Ric Cuming, chief nursing executive:  $242,000
•    Alex Contreras-Soto: chief administrative officer for Jackson Memorial:  $260,000
•    Martha Garcia, chief administrative officer for Jackson South:  $230,000
•    Gino Santorio, corporate director of project management:  $180,000
