Georgia Non-Profit Hospital CEOs Rake in Million-Dollar Compensations

CEOs at several non-profit hospitals outside metropolitan Atlanta received at least $1 million in total compensation during their organizations' most recently reported fiscal years, according to a Georgia Health News report.

The following are some of the hospital executives' compensation figures:

•    Ken Beverly, former CEO and president of Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville, Ga., received $6.2 million in FY 2009, most of which was from accumulated retirement benefits.
•    Jack Drew, former CEO of Athens (Ga.) Regional Medical Center, earned $1.18 million in FY 2009 upon retiring.
•    Donald Faulk, CEO of Macon-based Medical Center of Central Georgia, received just more than $1 million in FY 2009.
•    James Gardner, CEO of Northeast Georgia Health System in Gainesville, earned $1.4 million in FY 2009.
•    Paul Hinchey, CEO of St. Joseph's/Candler in Savannah, Ga., earned $1.05 million in FY 2010.
•    Larry Read, former CEO of University Health in Augusta, Ga., received $3.5 million in FY 2009, and most of his compensation came from retirement benefits.
•    Larry Sanders, CEO of Columbus (Ga.) Regional Healthcare System, received total compensation of $2.2 million in FY 2010, and $1 million of it was a payout of a supplemental retirement benefit.
•    Kurt Stuenkel, CEO of Rome, Ga.-based Floyd Medical Center, received $1.35 million in FY 2010.
•    Joel Wernick, CEO of Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Ga., took home $1.3 million.
