Compensation Exceeds $4.2M for Carolinas HealthCare System CEO

Michael Tarwater, CEO of Charlotte, N.C.-based Carolinas HealthCare System, earned more than $4.2 million in total compensation in 2011, an increase of more than 13 percent from 2010, according to a Charlotte Observer report.

Mr. Tarwater had a base salary of roughly $1 million, two bonuses totaling $2.5 million and other benefits, such as health and retirement supplements, of about $700,000, according to the report. In 2010, his total compensation was about $3.7 million.

•    Joseph Piemont, president and COO:  $2.54 million
•    Greg Gombar, CFO:  $1.75 million
•    Laurence Hinsdale, executive vice president of the regional group:  $1.69 million
•    Paul Franz, executive vice president of the physician services group:  $1.58 million
•    Dennis Phillips, executive vice president of the metro group:  $1.35 million
•    John Knox, III, CAO:  $1.2 million
•    Roger Ray, MD, CMO:  $1.08 million
•    Russell Guerin, executive vice president of business development:  $1.06 million
•    David Dunlap, president of Roper St. Francis Healthcare in Charleston, S.C.:  $1.04 million
