Anthem CEO's pay rose to $17.1M in 2016

Indianapolis-based Anthem President and CEO Joseph Swedish's total compensation increased about 9 percent in 2016 to $17.1 million, according to Anthem's annual proxy filing.

That amount includes his base salary — which increased 11.8 percent year over year — annual incentive compensation and realized stock gains.

Mr. Swedish earned nearly the same amount in 2016 as Bruce Broussard, CEO of Louisville, Ky.-based Humana. Mr. Broussard brought home $17 million last year, more than three times more than he earned in 2015.
