AMGA: 10 median salaries by medical specialty

This year, 77 percent of medical specialties saw an increase in median compensation, according to a survey distributed by the American Medical Group Association.

"Many factors influence a change in physician compensation, some of which are market demand for certain specialists and new technology or new procedures that impact the physician's overall productivity," the survey authors wrote.

Here are the top 10 median salaries in 2017 by medical specialty, with salary change by percentage:

  1. Cardiology — Cath Lab: $598,675 (up 2.5 percent)
  2. Gastroenterology: $519,124 (up 2.8 percent)
  3. Cardiology: $485,945 (up 0.5 percent)
  4. Dermatology: $457,118 (up 5.2 percent)
  5. Hematology and medical oncology: $444,766 (up 6.7 percent)
  6. Pulmonary disease (without critical care): $372,250 (up 5.6 percent)
  7. Hypertension and nephrology: $339,750 (up 3 percent)
  8. Allergy/immunology: $311,750 (up 5.9 percent)
  9. Neurology: $295,211 (up 3.7 percent)
  10. Hospitalist — internal medicine: $281,500 (up 2.2 percent)
