Akron (Ohio) Children's Hospital will increase its minimum wage to $15 an hour effective Nov. 24, reports the Akron Beacon Journal.

The pay increase will affect about 6,350 employees, representing 25 percent of Akron Children's workforce. The raises will affect positions including secretaries, schedulers, environmental services staff and home health aides.

At present, these employees are making $10.15 per hour, according to Rhonda Larimore, chief human resources officer at Akron Children's. Other employees will also receive raises within the next month to reflect the changing pay scale.

The change comes as Ohio plans to increase its minimum wage from $8.55 to $8.70 on Jan. 1, 2020.
