Nurse practitioners and physician assistants said they earned more in the past year, with 5 percent of NPs saying they made more than $150,000 in 2017, according a survey of advanced practice clinicians released by PracticeMatch.

PracticeMatch provides healthcare employers and jobseekers with various employment-related resources, such as a physician/candidate database, job boards, career fairs and career guidance, so employers can recruit their own physicians and advanced practice clinicians.

The survey was conducted by M3 Global Research in March 2018, on behalf of PracticeMatch. The survey's sample size was 1,089 respondents among NPs (514) and PAs (575) members of the MDLinx panel, a web-based service for physicians and healthcare professionals provided by M3 USA Corp.

Five survey findings:

1. NPs reported an average salary of $113,900, up 6.6 percent from last year's average reported salary of $106,000.

2. PAs reported an average salary of $117,000, increasing 4.9 percent from last year's reported average of $111,500.

3. Eight percent of PAs and 5 percent of NPs reported earning more than $150,000 in 2017.

4. Growing income levels for advanced practice providers is linked to high levels of job satisfaction, and 86 percent of PAs and NPs reported being satisfied to some degree with their income level as well, the survey found.

5. Only 5 percent of this year's respondents described themselves as unsatisfied in their careers as PAs and NPs, compared with 6 percent last year.
