CMS to Increase Payments for Inpatient Rehab Facilities

CMS has announced it will increase the payment rate to inpatient rehabilitation facilities by 2.1 percent for fiscal year 2013.

The new rate includes a 2.7 percent inflation-adjusted increase minus a 0.7 percentage point reduction for productivity, as well as a 0.1 percentage point reduction called for in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

Additionally, the final rate includes a 0.2 percentage point increase to take into account potential decreases in payments to outlier rehab facilities in urban areas.
