Innovation is a core Cerner value – and one that is certainly not taken lightly, as seen through the healthcare IT leader’s new Cerner RevElate™ Patient Accounting product launch, announced on October 6, 2021.

Cerner RevElate represents movement toward a smarter way of deploying workflow orchestration across a clinically driven revenue cycle. At the core of this innovative approach to revenue cycle is an open and extensible patient accounting product designed to connect not just clinicals and financials but also third-party content and workflow technology into the revenue cycle processes.

Announcing the new Cerner RevElate product and its potential benefits to healthcare providers is the fruition of a long-term patient accounting journey for Cerner. It will be an exciting step in moving toward a cost-effective revenue cycle approach for providers that offers alignment to a model experience.

It is important to note that while Cerner RevElate will be the single new patient accounting product, it will leverage the Soarian® Patient Accounting software. In essence, Cerner RevElate will preserve and advance the clinically driven capabilities of Cerner Millennium® while adding the scalable, enterprise capabilities of Soarian.

Current Cerner clients have expressed excitement surrounding the intended scalability of the new product, including Jeff Sandene, Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer at Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC).

“When we saw the demo, we could see that it was hitting every area within the revenue cycle from registration to the billing side of the house,” says Sandene.

He goes on to say, “From a health system perspective, you need scalability. You have to have a product that's scalable as merger and acquisition activity continues across the U.S.  We're no different in our part of the region. So to have a tool that is scalable, something that you can rely upon is key.”

Cerner RevElate is designed to enable workflow automation of repetitive tasks, which will make automation a key benefit of the new clinically driven patient accounting product.

David Strong, CoxHealth Vice President of Hospital Revenue, Chief Financial Officer at Cox Medical Center Branson, shared, “When I first heard about Cerner RevElate, the thing that excited me most was the patient experience side of it. With having different systems, one of the biggest challenges today is that the systems don't always talk to each other, so we have to redo a lot of work. It’s not always very convenient for our patients.”

True to the meanings of innovation and optimization, Cerner RevElate intends to act upon existing revenue cycle areas for improvement. This addition to the Cerner Revenue CycleSM management portfolio was influenced by industry insight, a positive market response and the evolving alignment of data models and integration capabilities.

Dana Christiansen, System Director Patient Access Services at CoxHealth, says, “I appreciate that Cerner is not necessarily trying to be the best at everything, but that it really embraced the third-party software solutions and is trying to develop more of a plug and play approach to those, recognizing that there are some options out there that really help us optimize.” She goes on to say, “The goal is to really make that seamless, to integrate it tighter and make it seamless for our users as well as to our patients when they are engaging with us.”

The healthcare IT company will uplift the current patient accounting client base to Cerner RevElate Patient Accounting in phases. Cerner will remain dedicated to standing hand in hand with clients in their journey to Cerner RevElate and looks forward to the impact that the innovative solution can have on healthcare providers.
