Stop using vape products containing THC, FDA warns

Maia Anderson -

The FDA warned consumers not to buy any vaping products containing THC while they try to determine what's causing the mysterious illness that has now affected over 1,000 people and killed 18.

Though the FDA hasn't identified any single source causing the illness, it said vaping products containing THC were used by most people who have contracted the illness.

"The latest number of reported cases and deaths, released by the CDC yesterday, continues to underscore the need for us to gather critical information and provide consumers with actionable information to help best protect themselves and their loved ones," the agency wrote.

The agency said people who continue to use vaping products shouldn't modify or add any substances including THC or other oils. It also warned people should not purchase any products off the street or through other illicit channels.

The FDA is urging people who continue to use vaping products with THC to monitor their symptoms and seek medical attention right away if they find any concerns.

The agency also emphasized that no youth or pregnant women should use any kind of vaping product.

"We are leaving no stone unturned in following all potential leads regarding any particular product, constituent or compound that may be at issue," the FDA wrote.
