More U.S. workers tested positive for illicit drugs in 2015 than they have in the past decade, according to data from more than 9.5 million workplace drug tests administered by Quest Diagnostics, The Wall Street Journal reported.
Workers in both the general workforce and the "safety-sensitive" workforce, which includes truck drivers, pilots, ship captains, subway engineers and other transportation works, have increasingly tested positive for drugs ranging from marijuana to heroin to methamphetamines, according to the report.
The Quest tests found 4 percent of all employee drug tests were positive in 2015. Among safety-sensitive workers, the rate of positive test results rose from 1.7 percent to 1.8 percent from 2014 to 2015. Among the general workforce, positive tests increase from 4.7 percent to 4.8 percent.
Positive drug test results from Quest rose for the third consecutive year in 2015 after previously declining for decades, according to the report.
