Partners in Health gets 'visionary' $15M gift: 4 things to know

Partners in Health, a Boston-based foundation that broadens access to healthcare for marginalized populations, received the largest gift in its 13-year history — a $15 million donation from the Wagner Foundation, according to The Boston Globe.

Here are four things to know:

1. The donation will support new programs, including an effort to collect and store health data in remote Liberia, where health records are often difficult to come by.

2. Partners in Health, founded in 1987, has 18,000 employees who are often area residents serving their home communities. The clinicians at the foundation care for patients in their home town, offer humanitarian aid in foreign countries or opt to stay in affected areas long-term.

3. The Wagner Foundation prioritizes health equity in its mission. It was founded by CEO Charlotte Wagner.

4. "This visionary gift from the Wagner Foundation will have a remarkable and sustained effect on the patients we serve and the care that we provide," Gary Gottlieb, CEO of Partners in Health, told The Globe.
