Kaiser Permanente broadens effort address chronic homelessness

As part of its ongoing effort to address housing security, Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente is pledging $3 million to address chronic homelessness in 15 communities across California.

The funds will be allocated over a three-year period to Community Solutions, a company that helps communities adopt problem-solving tools and technologies to end homelessness and address the conditions that create it.

"Kaiser Permanente is investing in efforts to reduce homelessness and housing insecurity because there is a proven link between housing and health," said Bernard Tyson, chairman and CEO of Kaiser. "Addressing affordable housing and homelessness is crucial to Kaiser Permanente's mission to improve the health of our members and the communities we serve, and to advance the economic, social and environmental conditions for health."
