HHS awards $374M to maternal, child health programs

HHS allocated $374 million in funding to support maternal and child health programs nationwide.

The agency gave $351 million to states, territories and other nonprofit organizations through its Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program. The program aims to provide voluntary home visiting services to pregnant women and parents with young children.

HHS also gave about $23 million in funding to support three new programs developed to improve maternal health outcomes:

  • State Maternal Health Innovation Support and Implementation Program — This program received $18.7 million in funding to help states address maternal health disparities and improve outcomes.

  • Supporting Maternal Health Innovation Program — This program received $2.6 million to develop a national resource center for grantees and stakeholders working on maternal health issues.

  • Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health – Community Care Initiative — This program received $1.8 million to develop and implement maternal safety bundles not focused on hospitals.
