Cancer Treatment Centers of America expands efforts with Foundation Medicine in precision medicine project

Boca Raton, Fla.-based Cancer Treatment Centers of America and Foundation Medicine, a molecular information company, will expand their partnership to develop an educational initiative on precision medicine in oncology.

The effort aims to educate physicians, caregivers and patients on how genomic testing of solid tumors during the early stages of a patient's care plan can help to inform personalized treatments.

The educational initiative will take a case-based approach — based on CTCA's use of Foundation Medicine's comprehensive genomic profile platform — describing several cancer patients' journeys from diagnosis to tumor profiling to treatment.

"As oncologists, we have an obligation to the patients we serve to keep pace with, and, whenever possible, lead the way in the application of the latest diagnostic tools that may help inform treatment decisions," said Maurie Markman, MD, president of medicine and science at CTCA.
